The number of purchases made online continues to rise and the Better Business Bureau has a number of tips to remember when buying from websites such as Craigslist. Investigator Bill Smith says that a woman from St. Louis was recently scammed out of $5,000 because she believed an advertisement for a vehicle was legitimate. He offers a few tips to make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

Smith says you should never send a money gram or any payment through a wire service when making a purchase online. He also recommends making arrangements to pay for the item after you have received it if possible.
