A 51 year old man is hospitalized after a small boat he was piloting collided with a barge on the Missouri River on Wednesday. It happened near the Highway 67 Lewis Bridge near West Alton at around 9:30am yesterday. Lieutenant Colin Fogarty of the U.S. Coast Guard says the call came in from the barge pilot to report the man on the smaller boat had gone into the water.
Fogarty says the victim is part of a construction crew with the St. Louis Bridge Company, and his condition is unknown. Fogarty says it is unknown if the victim lost consciousness before the incident or after his boat was hit. The identity of the man has not been released but his reportedly from Rolla, Missouri.
