Numerous local and federal agencies responded to the scene of a barge fire on the Mississippi River yesterday(Thursday) afternoon.  Located just south of Hartford, the area is in the jurisdiction of the South Roxana Fire Protection District.  The United States Coast Guard will be conducting an investigation.

South Roxana Fire Chief Todd Werner tells The Big Z it appears the fire happened as a former dredging barge was being scrapped south of the National Maintenance docks and north of the Lewis & Clark Monument.

There was small oil leak, but the company had already put containment measures into place by the time fire crews got there, according to Werner.  No one was injured.
