The man who was elected Judge of the Circuit Court for the Third Judicial Circuit last fall, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of Ann Callis, is seeking a higher office.  Madison County Circuit Judge and Republican John Barberis Jr. has announced a bid for the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court in the November 2016 election.

Barberis tells The Big Z he successfully ran in last year’s election against an opponent that outspent him 30 to 1, with much of his opponent’s war chest coming from groups such as lawyers and law firms.

If elected, Barberis, a lifelong conservative, says he will base his decisions on a strict adherence to the Illinois and United States Constitutions.  He is running as the Republican candidate for the seat being vacated by Justice Bruce Stewart, who has announced his retirement after his current term expires.
