Reports of a bacon shortage have hit the news. But Illinois Pork Producers Association Spokesman Tim Maiers says it's too soon to know what the impact will be. The shortage report comes out of Britain. Maiers says Britain has been under different restraints and regulations than the U.S. has been in the past several years. But he says the Illinois market did get hit with a double whammy this year, with higher feed prices and lower hog prices because of the drought.
He says those things combined mean consumers could see a slight shortage and even higher prices for pork sometime next year.
