A local optometrist is reminding eye exams are just as important as sports physicals and school supplies for students.   Dr. Julie Steinhauer says taking care of your child’s vision is an important part of their overall health.  She says the number one vision problem kids deal with is convergence insufficiency.

That’s basically when the eyes can’t cross accurately to focus on an object.  She says kids with vision problems are often misdiagnosed as having ADHD.

In addition to prescribing eyeglasses, Steinhauer promotes vision therapy. Vision therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control eye alignment, eye tracking, eye teaming, eye focusing abilities, eye movements and/or visual processing.
