The Alton Volunteer Emergency Corps has been around since 1948, but in recent years has been struggling to make ends meet and staff their unit.  The agency is well known for its river rescue response, but also performs other duties that include staffing local runs and triathlons.  They are currently looking for more volunteers.

AVEC Commander Ed Drach tells The Big Z you don't have to be in perfect physical condition to help - they can find something for you to do.
