Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn has reported that an autopsy has been conducted in relation to an death investigation of a Granite City man. Kevin J. Slaton was pronounced dead at 8:33 yesterday morning at Custom Steel Processing in Venice. Slaton was trapped between two coils of steel.
The autopsy revealed craniocerebral blunt head trauma as the cause of death. Routine toxicology reports for the presence of alcohol or drugs will also be performed. The death remains under investigation by the Venice Police Department and the U. S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Funeral arrangements remain pending at this time.
