An auto theft ring has been busted up in Granite City. Police say they discovered two stolen vehicles in the back of a semi-truck last week that had just left the Scrap Solutions scrap yard on Dial Drive. Police obtained a search warrant and raided the scrap yard.
Gary Brewer Sr., head of a regional auto-theft task force says the investigation continues.
They found three more stolen cars plus $300,000 worth of fine china. Police are still investigating the auto theft ring and have not made any arrests yet. The scrap yard is owned by the brother of Kirkwood City Hall shooter Charles “Cookie” Thornton, but the fact the raid was conducted on the five-year anniversary of the shootings was apparently coincidental.
