Footage from a police car dash-cam may help authorities in their effort to seize money they believe was part of area drug deals. The Madison County State’s Attorney is attempting to seize more than $21-hundred that was found on a suspect in a recent drug arrest in Alton
31-year-old Brian Redden of the 200 block of Maurice Street in Alton is charged with cocaine possession and allegedly had the cash on him at the time he was arrested May 20. Authorities say an Alton Police officer attempted to pull over Redden for an expired license plate when he allegedly fled but later crashed into a fence. He then attempted to flee on foot but was eventually taken into custody. Police say they have dash-cam footage of Redden putting cocaine into a trashcan following the crash as he was running away. After his arrest, authorities say Redden was found with what was believed to be marijuana, a digital scale, small plastic bags and the cash. The State’s Attorney’s Office says state law allows for the forfeiture of cash that is suspected in drug cases when the suspect does not appear to have means of support. Redden reportedly told police he was unemployed. Redden was on parole for a drug conviction at the time of his arrest.
