v>The Illinois House Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to override the governor’s veto of a bill that created an assault weapons ban in Illinois. The governor wrote the assault weapons ban into a bill that would have allowed gun owners in Illinois to buy ammunition online from in-state businesses. Lawmakers who voted for the override say the governor overstepped his bounds with the re-write.

Among them was State Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie), who was concerned with the constitutionality of the veto. “It seems very clear that the governor overstepped his constitutional bounds in making the changes he made in this bill,” said Lang. The House voted to override the veto by a vote of 78-28. The Senate previously voted to override, so the original bill becomes law, and the assault weapons ban does not.
