Saturday is Ask a Lawyer Day. This is the 34th annual, put on by the Illinois State Bar Association. They’ll answer your legal questions free from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, via phone, e-mail and Skype. Bar association President Paula Holderman says the lawyers can help a lot of people this way, but it’s getting harder.

“The complexity of the law has changed, and in 33 years, there are just a lot more laws on the books, so frankly not every lawyer could tell you the answer to every legal question because it has become so specialized,” she said.
She says people typically ask about consumer problems, landlord-tenant disputes, wills and child custody, and if they really should hire a lawyer, they’re told so.
The 21 lawyers answering the questions on Saturday will be situated in the bar association offices in Springfield and Chicago. Questions are invited from anywhere in Illinois, and Holderman says the questions have typically come from everywhere.
