A shuttered federal facility a few blocks away from Wood River City Hall continues to be converted into the operations center for Wood River’s Public Services Department. The Albert J. Ellison Reserve Center is a former home of U.S. Army Reserve units, but has been vacant for nearly five years.
Wood River Public Services Director Steve Palen tells The Big Z work crews are making steady progress.

The plan is to bring the different locations the Public Services Department uses together, consolidating operations there in the 17,000 square feet of useable space. The facility has been vacant since the 1008th Quartermaster Company and the 733rd Maintenance Platoon moved to the facility at the River's Edge Industrial Park in Granite City.
