Evidence in a pair of armed robberies that happened within hours of each other Friday morning remains scarce.  The first incident was on the Nautilus Fitness Center parking lot in Alton at about 3am, when the victim reports he was approached by an armed black man.  The second incident was in Wood River around 10:30.  No one was hurt in either incident.

Wood River Police say the masked suspect entered the Laclede Community Credit Union in the 200 block of Madison Avenue and displayed a handgun.  After getting an undisclosed amount of money, police say he fled on foot down an alley behind the building.  Police Chief Otis Stewart says they have enlisted the help of the FBI in their investigation.

Stewart comments

The Wood River robber is described as a 6 foot tall black male dressed in a mask, a gray hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants.  Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call their respective police departments.  The Alton Police Department can be reached at 463-3505, or the anonymous tip line at 465-5948.  The Wood River Police Department number is 251-3113.
