An armed man who was firing shots at homes and pointing his weapon toward passing traffic was shot and killed by responding police officers in East St. Louis on Monday. 41-year-old Jason Brooks was reportedly armed with a shotgun and a handgun Monday morning near 16th and Gaty Streets when police confronted him.
East St. Louis Police were called to the report of a nude man, who was armed with several weapons and firing shots in the neighborhood. Officers from Washington Park and the Illinois State Police also responded, but were not involved in the shooting. Authorities say Brooks refused to drop his weapons and was shot by the officers. He was taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment where he later died. Illinois State Police say no police officers were hurt in the incident, and no bystanders were injured although there were bullet holes found in a few homes and cars. State Police are investigating the case for East St. Louis.
