Twenty-million dollars in federal funds will help connect the Gateway Arch with downtown St. Louis. Local and federal officials made that announcement yesterday. The funding is part of a $600 million price tag on a complete overhaul of the Arch grounds including .

MoDOT Director Kevin Keith says the federal grant will pay for a pedestrian bridge over I-70, connecting the Arch Grounds with the Old Courthouse.


A matching grant from MoDOT as well as private funding will help pay for the project. Officials hope to have most of it finished by 2015, the 50th anniversary of of the Arch. A total of $57 million has been raised so far for the project.
