The Alton Police Chief has announced the officer involved in a videotaped incident in January has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation.  A video was shown by a St. Louis television station on Tuesday that appears to show a police officer spraying mace at two juveniles who were in a holding cell back in January. 

Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons says discipline will be handed down following the investigation.  In the meantime, he addressed the length of time it took from the time he was advised of the incident to the time the final report was sent to his desk last week.

An investigation into how the video was released to the public and who sent it is also underway.   Simmons previously stated he was disappointed that someone would release a video including juveniles to anyone outside the legal process.  You can hear the full statement here:
