An accused murderer has been free on bond for nearly two years, and the family of the Alton man he allegedly killed has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him. Police say 33-year-old Rodney Mike (pictured) killed 24-year-old JaMarco Anthony on May 9, 2010 at a former VFW Hall on Elm Street where Anthony was celebrating his birthday. JaMarco's brother Jerrod was also shot in the melee, and was in a coma for several days as a result.

Mike's bond was set at $1-million. He posted the 10%, or $100,000 in the days following his arrest, and the victim's mother wants to lay claim to that bond for her three grandchildren that were fathered by JaMarco Anthony.  Attorney Amy Sholar:

State's Attorney Tom Gibbons says they are ready to go to trial, and have set a pre-trial date of May 14.

The Anthony brothers were reportedly trying to break up a fight when the shooting took place.  Sholar is the Republican candidate for Madison County State's Attorney this fall.
