It's another step toward completion for the multi-modal transportation center in Alton.  With the stroke of a pen, Mayor Brant Walker this week executed grant agreements with the Federal Railroad Administration to execute the TIGER Grant that made this whole project possible.  The Department of Development and Housing will now begin a search for consulting services for the design and engineering services for the project.

The moves were made possible through resolutions passed by the city council last month.  Greg Caffey, Alton Director of Development and Housing, says the hope is to see dirt moving within the next 12 months.

A $13.85-million TIGER Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation was awarded in late 2012, and is being shared with Madison County Transit, which will provide the bus service that will service the train station.  In signing the documents, Walker made note of the hard work done by the previous administration in getting this project off the ground.
