The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating a report of a man possibly impersonating a police officer.  The incident happened around 6:15 Friday night on Godfrey Road near Beuttel Road.  A woman reports being pulled over by a man with a flashing blue light on the dashboard, similar to the style used by volunteer emergency responders.

After a brief conversation, the subject got back into the car and headed north on Godfrey Road toward Jersey County.  Captain Mike Dixon with the Madison County Sheriff's Department says it's hard to say at this point if the guy was an officer or not.

He says if you suspect you are being approached by an impersonator, you have the right to proceed to a safe public location, or to call the Sheriff's Department to ask if the person following is actually law enforcement.   If you have any information on this subject, call the Anonymous Tip Line at 296-3000, or the main dispatch line at 692-4433.
