The completion of the Route 67 project between Godfrey and Delhi continues to inch forward. A significant point will be reached early next week, when the western lanes will be opened to southbound traffic. Crews have been striping the southbound lanes between Delhi and Godfrey. Work on the whole project is expected to continue for another couple of months.
In December, hopes were to have the entire highway opened sometime in the spring, but a stretch of wet weather pushed the opening back significantly. IDOT Engineer Joe Gasaway says Mother Nature has recently provided some much-needed dry weather and workers have taken advantage of the opportunity.
As always, Gasaway reminds the area is still considered a work zone, with a speed limit of 45mph. The full opening is now expected to be around Independence Day.
