The Alton Branch of the NAACP is putting together the final plans for their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Service. This year’s service will be held next Sunday, January 19th and will include speeches from Rev. Dr. Freddy Clark, pastor of Shalom Church, Alton Mayor Brant Walker, and U.S. Representative Bill Enyart.
NAACP President James Gray says the event is always popular and that he is looking forward to seeing another “packed house”.

Gray says this year’s theme, “It’s Not Over Yet”, will provide those in attendance with a chance to pause and recognize that even though 45 years have passed since the assassination of Dr. King, we are still in an equality fight.
The service will be held on Sunday, January 19th, at 3 p.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church located at 2621 Amelia Street in Alton.
