The anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty in Illinois was noted on Wednesday.  It's been five years since capital punishment was banned in Illinois amidst fears that someone innocent would be executed.

State Senator Bill Haine (D-Alton) says there are still crimes being committed that deserve the sentence of death.
