The Alton City Council has approved changes to the city’s animal license ordinance. The fees for impounding cats and dogs and the fees if you are in violation of the other sections of the ordinance have been increased. The registration fee for your pets has been eliminated.
Treasurer Cindy Roth told The Big Z last month the old ordinance was “unenforceable.” Corporation Counselor Jim Schrempf says an amendment to the ordinance adds some additional increases to the fees.

There will be a further enforcement of offenders that are letting the animals run free, or are not keeping their pets properly, feeding them, or housing them properly. At one time the fees generated about $35,000 in revenue, but this year is down to $22,000, not including expenses.
