A bipartisan group of Illinois lawmakers is asking Governor Quinn and members of the Liquor Control Commission to appeal an order which allows Anheuser-Busch to distribute its own products. State Representative David Leitch and 35 other lawmakers say allowing the company to maintain an ownership interest in the City Beverage Illinois distributor puts smaller brewers at a disadvantage. They claim it allows Anheuser-Busch to control every stage of alcohol sales.
The Liquor Control Commission approved the ownership interest on October 31st but Senate Bill 754, which was enacted in June of last year, states that brewers that manufacture more than the craft brewers limit are not allowed to self-distribute or own a distributorship in Illinois. Leitch says the law should've made it clear that the ownership interest is not permitted.
