Amtrak train service to and from Alton will be disrupted for two weeks starting this Saturday due to bridge upgrades along the route between St. Louis and Chicago. Union Pacific Railroad is rebuilding and expanding six bridges to accommodate higher speed passenger trains in the future.
The disruption of service will begin Saturday October 17 and will be completed by Saturday October 31. Amtrak’s Texas Eagle and Lincoln Service will not run during this time. Passengers traveling from Alton to Chicago will be taken by bus, and you should consult the Amtrak website for details on the times of departure and stops along the way.
