Alton's Amphitheater is heading into its fourth year of operation, and promoter Triple Jam Productions announced a series of summer concerts on Z-1570's Let's Talk Thursday morning. The venue annually hosts a variety of concerts, including the The Big Gig and the Mississippi Earthtones Festival, and this year will also see a series of events on Fridays, beginning June 22.
Over the past two years, a free concert series had been held on Thursday nights that featured several tribute acts last year, but national touring acts like Head East and Cracker in 2010. Triple Jam President Jon Courtney says there is a bit of a change in store for 2012.
One of the more consistent draws over the past couple of years has been Think Floyd, a tribute to Pink Floyd. They are due back later this summer. The June 22 concert will feature a Bob Seger tribute band. The other city-sponsored dates will be July 6 and August 17. The city's 175th anniversary event will be July 21.
