If you have driven the stretch of Humbert Road between Alby Street and Tolle Lane you may have noticed Ameren crews are replacing a number of poles.  The power lines will soon be redirected to the new poles, which are being placed closer to the roadway.  An Ameren spokesman says they are being moved from the area near the railroad tracks.

Brian Bretsch tells The Big Z they are investing about $1.5-million in Godfrey to replace 65 utility poles.

The larger poles will be sunk further into the ground, similar to a larger tree having a bigger root system, according to Bretsch.  He says the utility has been replacing poles, lines and even substations in recent years in the Godfrey area in order to improve reliability.
