Ameren is pledging to hire 200 veterans and military spouses. The Joined Forces Initiative is asking private sector businesses to collectively hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans and their spouses by 2013. Ameren pledges to hire 200 veterans and military spouses over the next five years.

“Certainly military candidates have the leaderships and technical skills that fit our needs,” says Betsy Miller, a human resources supervisor with Ameren. Miller says Ameren has some positions open now with more expected in the future. “We have some positions now in some of our energy centers in Illinois. Really looking at some of the supervisory levels there in terms of operations and then as well as maintenance,” Miller said. Miller says intern positions are also open for those who may be using the GI Bill for higher education.
Ameren already has roughly 600 veterans on the payroll and about 10 percent of their new hires have military experience.Ameren employs 9,300 in Illinois and Missouri.
