You can get the latest update on an IDOT plan that may eventually result in the creation of an Alton / Godfrey Connector road on Thursday night. From 4-7pm at Alton High School, representatives from IDOT and their consulting firm will answer questions and take comments in an open-house format. The possibility of building a new road first resurfaced about in February at a Godfrey Village Board meeting, and the information was brought to the Alton City Council a few weeks later. IDOT Spokesman Josh Kauffman says it's a multi-year plan that has begun with the scheduling of meetings, such as Thursday's, to take public comment.
About a year ago, there was widespread speculation that IDOT was looking at incorporating Alby Street into a plan to relieve the growing congestion between Alton and Godfrey, but consultants say even if that plan does come to fruition, it is not on their radar as of now.
