An Alton woman is facing 30 years in prison following a guilty plea to bank fraud. Investigators say 45-year-old Cynthia L. Palmer admitted to defrauding and embezzling from U.S. Bank. She lost her job in December of last year.
According to U.S. Attorney Stephen Wiggington’s office, Palmer caused a direct loss of nearly $106,000 – much of it at the expense of the bank’s elderly customers. She is said to have principally targeted customers between the ages of 65 and 96 to conduct the unauthorized activity, making debits on their accounts. Sentencing is set for December 15.
