Alton Aldermen have given approval to city leaders to pursue a grant through the Illinois Department of Commerce that will go toward improving lighting in the downtown area.  The plan is to install and replace ballasts, decorative lights and electricity outlets at various locations downtown through a combination of the grant and city funds.

The City Council Liason, Matt Asselmeier, says the grant is worth $11,000.

Asselmeier comments

The city is also adopting a cooperative purchasing system, and moving forward with the demolition of a derelict piece of property at 1718 Belle Street.  These measures and others will be considered by the full council tomorrow night at 7:30.
