There hasn't been a need for salt on Alton roadways yet this year, but the city is ready for when that may happen. The trucks are at the ready, and two salt storage sites are fully stocked. One of those sites, however, will soon be moved.

The city has been storing salt at the former Great Central Lumber Company property near the riverfront, but Mayor Tom Hoechst says they will soon be moving that supply back out to the public works facility on Emma Kaus Lane.

Aldermen gave the deputy comptroller permission to seek bids for an extension of the salt storage dome at this week's meeting.
