There are new standards going into place in the Alton School District. Teacher evaluations will soon be done that will be more research based, which may lead to fewer teachers getting an “excellent” rating in all categories. The hope is to also shine a light on those teachers who could use improvement, or any that are unsatisfactory.
Principals are already subject to similar evaluations. Mark Cappel, the district’s Human Resources Director, says these new standards may be more work in the short term, but worth it in the end.

This coming school year will be the pilot year for the new standards, made mandatory through the Performance Education Reform Act and Senate Bill 7, with full implementation beginning September 1, 2015.
