The Alton School Board ratified an agreement between the Alton School District and Alton Education Association that will result in a raise in salary for all district employees. Certified employees will receive a 3.1 percent increase while all support staff will have their salaries raised by 39 cents an hour.
Chris Norman, the Director of Financial Services, for the Alton School District says they were able to increase salaries because recognized additional savings that just became available.
The salary increases are retroactive to July 1st, 2011 and will cost the district a total of $875,000. Alton Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells says he was pleased with everyone involved, specifically mentioning the professionalism of board members and the patience of the district employees during the negotiations. Spells also says that the AEA and Board of Education will begin discussing a new contract for future school years early next month.
