Longtime Alton High School instructor Annice Brave, who has been an English and journalism teacher at Alton High School for more than 20 years, was named the 2011 Illinois Teacher of the Year. She was also a candidate for the national honors, and a guest of the Oprah Winfrey Show. Today, she is heading to Springfield to help kick off the Illinois State Fair.
Brave will be joined by fellow Illinois Teacher of the Year Josh Stumpenhorst from Naperville as Grand Marshal. Brave is an English and journalism teacher at Alton High School, and has been for more than 20 years, is currently chair of the English Department at the school, and is the faculty supervisor of the student newspaper and student magazine. The Twilight Parade is the traditional kickoff event the night before the fair. It begins at 6pm at the corner of Ninth Street and North Grand Avenue, and inside the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
