The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has tentatively approved a plan to sign off on what could be a $450,000 loan. The Public Works director has identified a number of areas of need, and believes there is equipment that must be replaced soon. It is still unknown at this time which bank will win the city's business, as bids won't be opened until tomorrow afternoon.
Bob Barnhart says the city needs snow plow trucks, a couple of basic pick-up trucks for cold-patching purposes that could also be fitted with snow plows, and a street sweeper for starters.
When asked if the vote on this issue could be delayed two weeks, Barnhart said it could, but reminded it takes 4 to 6 months to take delivery of new equipment through the state contract. The committee voted unanimously to approve the resolution to borrow the money, with the knowledge that the wording could be amended at the full council meeting tomorrow night.
