The Alton City Council has given the city's comptroller permission to shop for a $450,000 loan. The Public Works director has identified a number of areas of need, and believes there is equipment that must be replaced soon. He says by pursuing a loan to be paid back over the course of five years, he can stay under budget.
Bob Barnhart says there is a shortage of useable equipment heading into the winter months. He says they need snow plow trucks, a couple of basic pick-up trucks for cold-patching purposes that could also be fitted with snow plows, and a street sweeper.
Mayor Brant Walker has named Rhonda Lewis the new Executive Director of the Park and Recreation Department. The council has also eliminated all parking restrictions on Third Street from Henry to Langdon. This is an attempt to ease the burden on parents picking up and dropping off students at St. Mary's School.
