The American Legion will be bringing its Great Lakes Regional baseball tournament to Alton in 2015 and 2016. The tournament is the last stop for teams before heading on to the American Legion World Series. It will bring eight teams and the associated staff and families to town from August 6-10 in 2015 and August 4-8 in 2016.
Dennis Sharp, General Manager of Alton Post 126 Baseball, says he put in the bid to host the regional a couple of months ago.

In addition to the economic benefits of hosting the tournament, which Alton Mayor Brant Walker says is estimated at $750,000, the Legion team gets an automatic berth in the tournament. Alton is no stranger to hosting big American Legion tournaments. The American Legion World Series was held at Gordon Moore Park in 2000.
