Classes begin Monday for students in the Alton School District, and for the first time in recent memory, it will be a full day of school. A new state law approved earlier this year requires a public school day to be a full day for both the first and last days of school. Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner says classes are actually starting a little later than in years past.
Baumgartner says the district sits down with the Alton Education Association to hammer out the school schedule, and the goal is to get out of school before Memorial Day:
Baumgartner says this years Spring Break will be a few days shorter and fall around Easter, but there will be a full two weeks around Christmas and New Years.
