The Alton School District will write a check for just over $83,000 to purchase a rectangular tract of land adjacent to the high school. It is located behind the Heartland Baptist Church and Savannah Trace Subdivision in a wooded area. The school board made the move in a special meeting Monday morning.
Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells says it was a move the board chose to make looking toward the future.
The money is coming out of the Operations and Maintenance Fund. Spells says there is no plan for the land at this point. There has been speculation the school district may want to expand its athletic fields, as some home games are played at sites other than on the high school campus.
