The Alton City Council has recognized the efforts of various sustainability organizations and their efforts to maintain the health of the Mississippi River. Mayor Brant Walker welcomed about a dozen members of the local Sierra Club and similar organizations to City Hall Wednesday night as he read a proclamation declaring April 13th Mississippi River Day in the City of Alton.

In other council news, final approval was given to an ordinance increasing the number of C-2 Liquor Licenses in the city. It was originally drawn up for one to allow Templar Brewing company to open its tap room, but another was added to include a new Italian restaurant in the former Wardein Pharmacy building on State Street in North Alton. The city also approved the temporary closure of the intersection of Elliot Street at Highland Avenue on Sunday for the shooting of a music video.
