Over $1000 was raised by the Alton Police Department during "No Shave November."  Guys growing beards and the ladies who were allowed to "dress down" on Fridays made donations to a fund that was turned around and given back to the community.

Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons tells The Big Z more than $800 in gift cards were purchased as a result of the fundraiser.

The other $200 was presented to the Character Building Program at the Salvation Army.   A Salvation Army spokesman thinks the money could go toward scholarships to the National Jamboree at the Huzzah Valley Resort in Steelville, Missouri next July.  That event only happens once every four years and brings young people together from all over the country.
