Alton Police have trained with the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission Mobile Training Unit for 42 years, and that partnership will continue for at least another year. There was a possibility the City Council would switch from the current Mobile Training Unit to one that serves the area immediately north of Madison County, but a new deal has been reached that will continue Alton’s relationship with SILEC.
Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons says they will be able to receive the training closer to home than had been the case before.

In other council action, aldermen approved an increase of about 4.9% in the Alton tax levy to a little less than $6.9-million in the coming fiscal year. The resolution must now go through the ordinance process, which could take another month to complete
