If you plan on traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday the Alton Police Department and other safety officials want to make sure you get to your destination safely. To that end, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, Alton Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies are joining forces to enforce seatbelt and impaired driving laws.

Alton Police Department Traffic Division Supervisor, Sergeant Michael Gordon recommends designating a driver if you plan to drink while celebrating the holiday.

Gordon also recommends calling a cab if you are unable to designate a driver before festivities begin. He says motorists can expect to see a larger police presence on area roadways, especially late at night when seatbelt use is at its lowest and impaired driving is the biggest problem.
