The owner of Alton Plaza is getting ready to put on a new roof, and that's not the end of the planned improvements. The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole approved a redevelopment agreement with Dan Mar Enterprises to remove and replace the existing roof over the Dollar General and adjacent Metro Supply.
Dan Mar owner Jeanine Kelley says once the roof is replaced, there are other improvements on the horizon.
The new roof is about 10 years old. The new roof will have a 20-year warranty. The total cost of the project is in excess of $140,000, and the city is kicking in $25,000 in TIF Funds. In other business, the committee approved lease agreements with Tony's Restaurant and Bossanova on 3rd Street for sidewalk cafe's. There is also a sewer replacement project in the works for the area of Thorpe and Cooper. The full council must still approve these measures. That meeting is tomorrow night at 7:30.
