Illinois State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting in Alton last evening in the 3400 block of Lincoln Avenue, which is in the Milton area. A ten-year veteran of the Alton Police Department shot and killed 27-year-old Isaac Jimenez, who was reportedly wanted in connection with a shooting incident in St. Louis County on Sunday. The officer was not injured.
State Police were called in to investigate the scene following the shooting incident last evening about 5:20pm. Authorities say a homeowner contacted Alton Police about a person who was on their back porch. Four Alton Police officers responded to the scene and approached Jimenez who was armed with a handgun, ordering him several times to drop his weapon. Jimenez, who recently lived in Worden and St. Louis County, reportedly did not follow the directions by police and was shot, and died at the scene. Jimenez is the same man who police were looking for in Worden early Monday morning. He was identified as a person of interest in connection with a shooting in St. Louis County on Sunday that seriously injured a 27-year-old woman. The Alton officer who was involved in the shooting is on administrative leave during the investigation and the State Police will turn over their findings to the Madison County State’s Attorney.
