Organizers behind the effort to establish a dog park in Alton say their plan is making steady progress.  The Russell Commons site in Alton will offer ample space for its members, and the fence should be going up soon, as the Alton City Council Committee of the Whole has approved the creation of specifications and is seeking bids for the project.

This is actually a rebidding, with a different set of goals now in place, according to Alton Park & Recreation Deputy Director Rhonda Lewis.

Russell Commons became the park of choice because much of the needed infrastructure is already in place.

In other committee action, a plan to name an alley after murder victim Tyler Hoppe was placed on file, effectively ending the process.  After some research, it was discovered the alley wasn't actually an alley, but an unimproved street.  Cooper Street runs parallell to Hampton between Taylor and Fletcher, and was vacated in 1958.
