The Alton City Council will vote on a tax levy of nearly $6-million tomorrow night. The Committee of the Whole has voted to increase the levy by about $300,000 over last year's number. The police and fire pension funds will again get the lion's share of the money, with $1.875 million set for each.

That's about $175,000 more each than this year. A little less than $531,000 is earmarked for IMRF retirement payments, and just over $528,000 has been proposed for liability insurance. There are also increases in Playground and Recreation, Liability Insurance, the Municipal Band, Park, and FICA. Assuming it receives full council approval tomorrow night, the total levy for 2011 will be $5,977,637.
