An Alton man is facing up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. 29-year old, Robert L. Jones entered that plea Wednesday in federal district court in East St. Louis.
Facts presented in the case revealed that a law enforcement officer observed individuals sitting in a parked car near an apartment building around midnight on September 14, 2012. The officer made contact with occupants of the car and found a small plastic baggie containing 5.4 grams of crack cocaine on the driver's lap and a semi-automatic handgun belonging to Jones under the hood of the car.
Sentencing has been scheduled for October 11th, at which time Jones faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, not more than 3 years of supervised release and a special assessment of $100.
